Climate Records
Pick a Pennsylvania station and see how any year stacks up against every year on record: daily records, the 1991–2020 normal, monthly rankings, and long-term climate indices such as 90-degree days, heavy-rain days and the growing season.
Method
Data: NOAA Regional Climate Centers' Applied Climate Information System (ACIS). "Area" stations are the official threaded records that join a city's successive observing sites into one history. Normals here are 1991–2020 averages computed from the same record and smoothed with a 31-day running mean, so they can differ by a degree from NCEI's official normals. Trace precipitation counts as zero in totals. A year or month enters rankings, indices and trends only if no more than 10 days (years) or 3 days (months) are missing for that element. Records "set" in the selected year beat every earlier year for that calendar day. Indices follow the definitions used by the xclim and ETCCDI climate-index libraries, converted to US units.
